The hollow fiber filter cartridge is a high-performance membrane filtration element engineered for precision liquid and gas purification applications. Constructed from thousands of microporous hollow fiber membranes bundled together and potted within a durable housing, this cartridge delivers exceptional filtration efficiency with high flow rates and low pressure drop.
Unlike conventional pleated or depth filters, hollow fiber filter cartridges utilize a three-dimensional membrane structure that maximizes filtration surface area while minimizing footprint. The hollow fiber membranes feature a thicker membrane wall than flat sheet membranes, maximizing the depth of filtration for superior particle reduction efficiency. This unique design enables the cartridge to provide up to twice the surface area and higher flow rates when compared to pleated membrane cartridges.

Q1: What is the difference between microfiltration (MF) and ultrafiltration (UF) hollow fiber cartridges?
A1: Microfiltration (MF) cartridges have pore sizes ranging from 0.01μm to 0.65μm and are used to remove suspended solids, bacteria, and fine particles. Ultrafiltration (UF) cartridges are rated by molecular weight cutoff (MWCO) from 1kD to 500kD and are used to separate macromolecules, proteins, and colloids.
Q2: What is cross-flow (tangential flow) filtration and when should I use it?
A2: In cross-flow (tangential flow) filtration, the feed solution flows parallel to the membrane surface. The sweeping action continuously removes accumulated particles from the membrane surface, reducing fouling and enabling high solids processing. Cross-flow is recommended for cell culture broths, fermentation liquids, and high-suspended-solids applications.
Q3: How do I choose the right membrane material?
A3:
Q4: Can hollow fiber modules be sterilized?
A4: Yes. Many hollow fiber modules support in-line steam sterilization or off-line autoclaving. For biopharmaceutical applications, pre-sterilized single-use modules are also available.
